Poses for Pendleside I was asked to speak at the Poses for Pendleside launch night about why I got involved, I didn't have chance to put something together beforehand so here's why.. Why I got involved..... Long post! My friend Helen (Miss September) told me that, along with her friend Julie, they were planning a calendar in the style of ‘the calendar girls’. She said that the proceeds would be going to Pendleside hospice and asked if I would take the photographs. I immediately said that I’d like to get involved. Along with the project sounding like great fun to do, Pendleside Hospice is such a worthwhile cause. They provide support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their families and carers. Along with many of the ladies involved, and so many of you, in recent years I have lost both family and friends to cancer and know people who are continuing to battle with this cruel disease. It wasn’t until my own mum was diagnosed with cancer that I discovered and accessed some of the services offered by the hospice. It’s now 2 years since my mum was diagnosed, after operations and extensive treatment she is now in remission, we have been extremely lucky. There was a time where we were told to prepare for the worst and were simply waiting for the next test to tell us more, then waiting for the next test... I felt useless as we waited to know exactly what we were dealing with. I started researching everything I could in advance so that whatever the next test showed, I would at least know which way to turn. Maybe I wanted to feel like I was in control of the situation, ultimately it was something that I had no control over whatsoever... but then we all deal with things differently, and this was my way. During all my ‘research’ I had looked at information about the hospice and was amazed by the amount of services that they provided - from an information clinic, complementary therapies, help with rehabilitation, survivorship support to palliative care both at home and at the hospice. We still had questions about many of the practical things we needed to consider whilst my mum received a full diagnosis and treatment options. We were discussing these in hospital when I mentioned to mum that perhaps we should access the hospice’s information clinic as they may be able to help us. One of the nurses overheard and said she was glad I’d mentioned it, she didn’t know whether to. I do understand this, we didn’t know how serious my mums case was and some people may instantly associate the hospice with the vital palliative care they provide and assume the worst, but I think it’s important that people are made aware of the services the hospice can provide. The hospice is there for people who are going through a time of turmoil, whatever the outcome may be. To know it is there if/when you need it, makes a difference. The people there do an amazing job, offering advice, support and care in safe and comfortable surroundings. We were made to feel welcome and it was a world away from the cold, clinical hospitals we were starting to get used to. Unlike some of our family and friends, we were lucky to require very little support. Fundraising will help to ensure they will continue to be there to support us, our families and friends in times of need. The ladies have set a target of £4000, this is a very modest sum when you consider this statement from the Pendleside hospice website: ‘The Hospice currently costs over £3.8 million per year to run. A grant from the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group provides approximately 26% of running costs but the balance, over £2.8 million, is raised locally.’ Helen Welsh (Miss September) has created a Poses for Pendleside justgiving page, so if you don’t wish to buy a calendar but would like to donate, please click on the link below to donate to the hospice and help the ladies smash their target! The ladies were all amazing throughout their photo shoots, which took place at The Lawrence Hotel and Mooch Cafe in Padiham. I know that it wasn’t the easiest thing for them to do, each had their own personal reasons for wanting to do it though and battled their own insecurities to do it. They should be immensely proud of themselves for going through with it!! Well done ladies!!! When you buy a calendar, every penny you spend will be going to the hospice. Along with myself and the ladies, The Lawrence, Going Dutch Florist and Mooch Cafe have given their time and skills free of charge to help bring the calendar to life. There have been some other fantastic local businesses involved who have sponsored every page of the calendar meaning all printing costs have been covered. The calendars cost £7.99 and are available in the following shops now Conlans Butchers, Burnley Road, Padiham Mooch Café, Burnley Road, Padiham Jack Jones Barbers, Burnley Road, Padiham The Hardware Store, Burnley Road, Padiham Beautyful you, Yorke House, Ormerod Street, Burnley You may also order online through my website Poses for Pendleside Jackjones Barbers Kendall’s sandwich bar Mooch Cafe87 @Innova Solutions Going Dutch Florist Rishton Glass & Windows @in2 plastics The Lawrence Pendleside Hospice #pendlesidehospice #hospice #localcharity #charity #fundraising

How did I manage in a smaller studio?! Here's a behind the scenes look at the set up for one baby! I love the natural light in here. Flash isn't necessary anymore unless its late in the day, meaning there's less disturbance for baby and the sessions have been so relaxed occasionally mum or dad catch up on a bit of sleep! Everything packs away nicely at the end of the day so there's lots of space for my family sessions too! #lovemystudio #newbornphotographer #newbornphotography #studiosessions #workspace #luckyme #burnleyphotographer #photographercolne #lancashirephotographer #familyphotographer #bizspace
